A letter from our President and team
To our Co-operative Community,
On behalf of our Co-op team and our partners at CEA and Ergo Eco Solutions, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well. These last few weeks have been challenging for all of us. It’s at times like this that it becomes clear just how important it is to be part of a connected, resilient community like ours.
With all the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to reach out and reassure you that, while our physical office is closed until further notice, we are available and do our best to maintain our services to you.
Although it can be difficult to think beyond the current crisis, we know that our community still values clean air and a healthy environment. With this in our hearts and minds, our team continues to work hard through these challenges to ensure that both of our Green & Go biodiesel pump locations remain open to members during our normal operating hours.
We remain as dedicated as ever to achieving our vision of Resilient Communities in balance with a Healthy Planet by providing people with sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives to petroleum products. Unfortunately, a local Co-op like ours has no control over the global oil market and we are simply unable to match fossil fuels prices when the world’s biggest oil producers flood the market in a price war. The Co-op already provides its biodiesel as cheaply as possible because we believe to our core that people deserve access to sustainable choices that empower us to make a difference. And while that continues to motivate us through difficult times like these, cutting our prices further and shouldering increasing losses would put the Co-op and all we’ve worked for at risk.
However, we can and will pass on any price savings that we benefit from to our members. In this case, with a big drop in petroleum prices, we are now able to offer our B20 at the cheapest prices ever.
A B20 blend offers significant reductions in pollution compared to regular diesel while meeting most vehicle warranties and offering all the mechanical and performance benefits of higher biodiesel blends. And the more B20 you use, the more our Co-op benefits through a recent agreement with the Province to increase the use of low-carbon B20 biodiesel. (Now if we could just get them to remove the Carbon Tax on carbon-neutral biodiesel!)
To do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19, our team is taking steps to regularly disinfect our fueling equipment as best as possible. However, since we can’t be there 24/7 to disinfect the pumps after each use, we ask our member to also do their part and take personal responsibility for your own health and the health of your fellow members by washing your hands before and after use, If a member feels unwell or has flu-like symptoms, stay home and avoid the use of Co-op equipment to protect your fellow Co-op members.
If you have any questions or feedback please contact us by email at [email protected] or by phone at (250) 597-1491.
Thanks again to all our members and the community for continuing to support local, clean energy solutions.
Be safe, keep healthy and remember that COVID-19 too shall pass.
Sincerely,
Brian, President of CB-DC and the dedicated team at Cowichan Bio-Diesel Co-op
